Mockingbird fans, rejoice: Adrianne Palicki has been elevated to a series regular on Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
After debuting early in the show’s second season, Palicki quickly become an audience favorite across her six appearances, and raised quite a few interesting questions regarding her character’s future in the MCU. In the comics, Mockingbird is not only an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and member of several Avengers teams, but the wife of Hawkeye, who’s played by Jeremy Renner in the Avengers films.
Renner has been given a bit of a short shrift in comparison to the other Avengers he shares screentime with, so introducing a character like Mockingbird into the films could help inject his character with a bit of excitement and intrigue. Palicki is not just a TV actress, either, and showed in last year’s John Wick that she could hold her own in big screen action set pieces. She’d make a fine addition to the larger MCU and give the franchise the gender diversity that it desperately needs.
Future film appearances aside, it’s great to hear that the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. showrunners are leaning on Palicki’s strength and popularity and bringing her back for a longer stint on the series. Perhaps the series is finally morphing into the show we wanted it to be from the very beginning?
Palicki will next show up as Mockingbird when Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns from its extended winter hiatus on March 3rd, 2015.
