The most recent episode of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. was an eventful one in several ways (both Ward and May returned, Simmons was rescued from the monolith dimension), and it also saw the introduction of another character from the Marvel Comics universe.
After being introduced in the Captain America: The Winter Soldier post-credits stinger, it seemed like Thomas Kretschmann’s Baron von Strucker was being lined up to play a fairly significant role in the MCU – but obviously that wasn’t to be, as the Baron met an abrupt end at the hands of Ultron in the Avengers sequel.
Well, it looks like his legacy might just continue on through his son Werner, who we saw Grant Ward recruit (not that he gave him much choice) in Tuesday’s “Purpose in the Machine” episode. The actor playing him is Spencer Clark (Bruce Willis’ son in Unbreakable), and here’s what he had to say about joining the cast of Marvel’s flagship show.
I’m really excited to be on the show because not only am I a fan of Marvel and the Marvel universe but I’m a fan of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It was super-exciting to come out and hang out with these guys and to get to be a part of it. I play Werner Von Strucker, obviously his father is Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker, who was a Hydra leader. Alexander and his father had a strained relationship but this is his attempt to reconcile the death of his father and sort of prove himself as an individual.
See how Werner readjusts to the HYDRA life on next week’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., airing Tuesday on ABC.
