Good news for early adopters of The Tick, I Love Dick and the really rather bizarre Jean-Claude Van Johnson – Amazon has handed out series orders for all three comedy pilots after they were released for Prime members last month.
Confirmation comes to us via Deadline, revealing that the online giant enjoyed its most-watched pilot season to date. That’s quite the feat, with Joe Lewis, Head of Half-Hour Series at Amazon Studios, noting that “these pilots were vast in scope, disruptive in tone, challenging in story and sometimes even funny. It’s rewarding to see customers embrace them in such a huge way. We can’t wait to premiere these series next year on Prime Video.”
[zergpaid]Truth be told, Amazon’s novel pilot program presents viewers with a nerve-wracking conundrum in that it’s entirely possible a promising new series will make its bow, only to miss out on making the cut. Thankfully, The Tick, I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson have emerged successful, and we’ll be keeping tabs on each series as begins to spread its wings on the streaming platform.
Out of the three, a seralized spin on Ben Edlund’s The Tick was arguably viewed as the biggest risk prior to its premiere, but a crowd-pleasing turn by Peter Serafinowicz was, by and large, enough to silence any doubters. Also starring Griffin Newman, Jackie Earle Haley, Valorie Curry, Yara Martinez and Brendan Hines, fans can readily expect Edlund to call upon additional characters from The Tick as the full season pans out. I Love Dick, meanwhile, is based on Chris Kraus’ work of fiction about one couple’s martial struggles. Lastly, Jean-Claude Van Johnson follows the life of Jean-Claude Van Damme himself as he upholds a low profile as an undercover private contractor.
Tell us, in light of the announcement, which series are you most looking forward to?
