As if Evil Dead hadn’t made split tongues freaky enough, the latest teaser for American Horror Story: Freak Show is here to elicit an involuntary shudder from us more squeamish of viewers. Hot on the heels of the first teaser giving us a (very scary) hand, this new clip certainly captures the creepy atmosphere and almost cartoonish scares of FX’s series.
Other than both freaking us out, the two teaser clips share some common ground in that neither gives us the slightest insight into the actual plot of American Horror Story‘s upcoming season. Beyond the broad strokes, which involve a German ex-pat (Jessica Lange) running a freak show out of Jupiter, Florida, in the 1950s as a dark entity savages townspeople and freaks alike, there’s a lot we still don’t know about Freak Show. Here’s the official synopsis:
“American Horror Story: Freak Show begins its tale in the quiet, sleepy hamlet of Jupiter, Florida. The year is 1952. A troupe of curiosities has just arrived to town, coinciding with the strange emergence of a dark entity that savagely threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks alike. This is the story of the performers and their desperate journey of survival amidst the dying world of the American carny experience.”
In addition to Lange, for whom Freak Show will be the last installment of American Horror Story (the actress, a muse to showrunner Ryan Murphy, has been with the series since the very first episode), the fourth season will feature returning stars Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy and Gabourey Sidibe. Newcomers to the show this season include Michael Chiklis, Wes Bentley, Patti LaBelle, Finn Wittrock, Jyoti Amge and John Carroll Lynch.
Additionally, it’s just been announced that Matt Bomer (White Collar), who last worked with Murphy on the acclaimed HBO original movie The Normal Heart, has been tapped for a guest spot on Freak Show. No specifics on his part other than that, in Murphy’s own words, it will be extremely “warped.”
American Horror Story: Freak Show will open its doors on October 8th.
