Casting a member of BLACKPINK in your show? Great marketing strategy. Reducing her role to a couple of lines an episode? Not so great. Angering fans of the massively popular K-Pop girl group is probably the last thing Sam Levinson should be doing following the controversy his latest project The Idol has generated over the last couple of days.
In a bombshell article published by Rolling Stone on Wednesday, Idol insiders exposed the show’s toxic set and misguided change in tone, it was also revealed that, as it stands, Jennie’s screen time is minimal, with only one to three lines per episode. Even worse, the magazine’s source says “her job was to sit there [and] look pretty, basically.”
Fans were excited to see Jennie’s acting debut on the high-profile series by Euphoria creator Levinson and musician The Weeknd, but if Rolling Stone‘s sources are correct, it sounds like the singer was merely audience bait to attract BLACKPINK’s huge following.

Well, The Idol will not be capitalizing on that audience they were trying to lure in, because Blinks are planning to tune in for Jennie, and then immediately turn the episode off.
pls shes literally the only reason why i was going to tune into this show. guess i just have to watch her as a pretty girl for like seven minutes and then i’ll turn off the tv.

i’m gonna tune in for my sister’s “three to four lines” each episode and then turn it off after she’s done speaking!

Considering the awful rumors that have come out about The Idol, with insiders calling it “sexual torture porn” for its pointless and overtly violent sexual scenes, this might actually be good news for both Jennie and her supporters. The less involvement the singer has with the show, the better.
