At this point, it’s pretty clear that the upcoming Arrowverse crossover, titled “Elseworlds,” has a lot of surprises in store for us. Perhaps the most intriguing one, though, is the fact that Barry Allen and Oliver Queen will be swapping bodies.
Yes, as you’ve surely heard, Grant Gustin will be suiting up as the Green Arrow while Stephen Amell is set to slip into the Flash’s costume. The reason behind this is still unclear, but The CW’s been kind enough to begin teasing what such a situation would look like with a couple of promos.
The one we got yesterday had Ollie waking up in Barry’s body and having breakfast with Iris, and now, we’ve got a teaser that sees Mr. Allen sparring with Diggle. Only, David Ramsey’s character thinks he’s fighting the Green Arrow, much to the bewilderment of Barry. Judging by both his and Oliver’s reactions to finding out they’re in one another’s body, it seems the swap was unexpected and not planned, but that doesn’t make it any easier trying to figure out just how it happened.
Of course, this switcheroo is just one piece of the bigger puzzle, as “Elseworlds” will also bring us the debut of Ruby Rose as Batwoman, the introduction of Gotham City and a few of its denizens and Tyler Hoechlin’s return as Superman alongside Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane. And let’s not forget that John Wesley Shipp’s returning, too. And in his classic Flash costume from the 1990s, no less.
With so many all-star team-ups going on, fans probably won’t miss Legends of Tomorrow too much, which won’t be involved as it’ll be doing its own self-referential time-travelling crossover. But fear not, for you can catch the rest of the Arrowverse coming together for “Elseworlds” on The CW beginning December 9th.
