After a jaw-dropping season three that ended on a cliffhanger, HBO released the trailer for the final season of Barry. The last season ended with the titular character, Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) arrested by the SWAT team after he was charged with the murder of detective Janice Moss. Ever since, the fans have been eagerly waiting for what the new season has in store for Barry, who is also shown to be advancing toward degrading mental health.
Thankfully, with the release of the new trailer, the viewers are catching a glimpse of how the irredeemable character is trying to adjust and adapt to his life behind the bars as well as coming to terms with his past actions.
In the process, he is seemingly losing his grip on sanity as the trailer shows him sitting idly, roaming around the prison cell and screaming before the mirror as his former acting teacher Gene’s words — “Barry, you are irredeemable” — haunt him.
The trailer grasps Barry’s loneliness and remorse and as Timber Timbre’s ‘Run From Me’ plays in the background, we see his friends and enemies moving on with their lives without Barry’s influence.
Not much light has been shed on what happens later as the plot details remain scarce at this moment. But here’s everything we know about the new season.
The new and final season is scheduled to release on April 16, 2022. Even though not much is known about the exact storyline, the trailer opens a window into where the story might be heading. The plot takes off from where season three ended — Barry’s life in prison.
While Barry is portrayed to struggle mentally, we see two more significant characters. One is his former girlfriend Sally, who provides a very brief description of Barry: “The guy I was dating in LA killed my acting teacher’s girlfriend. I think I might be in a lot of trouble.” The other is the former mobster, NoHo Hank.
It is not certain how these characters will be placed in the series’ upcoming installment. Hader broke his silence on the subject when he told The Wrap:
“Well, certain things I can’t say because it sets up stuff in Season Four, but I can say where Sally and NoHo Hank specifically end up this season and giving them Barry’s disease like they murder people. That was something that, as we were looking at Season Four, it was kind of going like, ‘Oh, that could be interesting to just have their characters be different.”
The season will also see the return of the star-studded cast. Apart from Bill Hader, who will continue to play the titular Barry; Sarah Goldberg, Stephen Root, Anthony Carrigan, and Henry Winkler will reprise their roles as Sally, Monroe Fuches, Hank, and Gene, respectively.
Barry season four will be released on HBO on April 16, 2023.
