The upcoming DC Universe streaming service is about to become every fan’s favorite website. As well as being home to brand new TV shows, both live-action and animated, it’ll also host various classic productions. For instance, the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman TV show and the acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series, which is still seen by many as the best screen adaptation of the Dark Knight to date.
Despite its enduring popularity, however, BTAS has never been released in HD. Until now, that is, as the official DC Universe Twitter account has revealed that the beloved show, from the minds of Paul Dini, Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett, will be on the site in HD for the very first time, with seasons 1 and 2 being lined up for your viewing pleasure.
This announcement follows on from the good news that came back at last year’s New York Comic-Con that BTAS would get its first release on Blu-Ray at some point during 2018. We’re still waiting for some more info on that, but it’s likely Warner Bros. Entertainment has decided to capitalize on the refurbishment done for the upcoming release by featuring it on DC Universe, too.
As the series is now over 25 years old, the stars of the show have recently looked back at their time on BTAS and unveiled some interesting facts about it in the process. For instance, Kevin Conroy revealed that he nearly played the lead role in the campy style of Adam West before he changed his mind, as well as telling us that the decision was made to end the show before they ran out of ideas or the quality dipped.
Of course, Batman: The Animated Series won’t be the only big draw for DC Universe, as we’ve also got Titans, the long-awaited third season to Young Justice and a solo animated series for Harley Quinn to look forward to as well. Suffice it to say, there’s much for fans to get excited about and as soon as we receive any further updates, we’ll be sure to let you know.
