There have been several scenes throughout the second half of this season that hinted at Gabe returning to his beast roots. Although, I imagined it would happen more organically (i.e. a second brush with death). Gabe, however, had a much more efficient method at his disposal – Landon’s make-a-beast formula.
Gabe took his vendetta against Vincent to a new level on this episode of Beauty and the Beast, resulting in him making what his sane self would see as the ultimate sacrifice – all to protect a woman who has proven that she is more than capable of taking care of herself. (Seriously, did you see her take down Gabe?)
If you remember back to season one, there was nothing Gabe wanting more than to rid himself of the curse of being a beast. Yet, here we are, about a year in television time later, and Gabe has purposely rendered himself a beast once more. I can’t image that this is going to end in anything other than a disaster – especially since he isn’t going out without exposing beasts in the process, or at least trying excruciatingly hard to do so.
Cat and Vincent were on the verge of having a real relationship when Gabe made his first move to separate them, and now that they are so close to that future being a reality again, Gabe is going in for the kill – quite literally. From time to time, Beauty and the Beast resorts to utilizing an infuriating character to make a point. In this case, that point was Gabe’s agenda, and that infuriating character was none other than Cat’s old high school chum, Beth.
If you didn’t get enough of her in the “Reunion,” she was back in full force on tonight’s episode – and just as unlikeable. That is, until about three quarters of the way through when she bonded with Heather (guest star Nicole Gale Anderson) over their mutually scarring beast experiences. Which only made watching Gabe rip her heart out that much more painful of a viewing experience.
Beauty and the Beast has let it all hang in the balance in preparation for the season two finale. Vincent has been exonerated from all the charges with the help of another mysterious sect of the government (best guess – we won’t hear from them again until next season), but now that Gabe is back in beast form, everyone is in even more danger. Gabe is out of allies and is playing his last card – revealing the truth.
