Whenever anyone interviews a cast member of Black Lightning, it seems like an obligatory question to ask is if that show will ever crossover with the Arrowverse. Hey, even I’m guilty of this practice, as I brought it up when I had the privilege of speaking with lead actor Cress Williams at Motor City Comic Con 2018.
If you’ll recall that conversation, the man tasked with bringing Jefferson Pierce to life was cool with the idea, though he wanted his own show to first stand on its own two feet before any sort of crossover occur. To be honest, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” would’ve been quite the opportune time for such a thing to happen, but it appears as though Black Lightning won’t be partaking – unless members of the cast make surprise appearances, that is.
Updating us all on the situation was Cress Williams himself, who said the following at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend:
“I want Supergirl to come to Freeland. So, there’s been lots of talk… nothing official, but at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised.”
Actually, the Girl of Steel would be a natural fit, as she was name-dropped very early on in Black Lightning‘s first season. The jury’s still out as to whether she actually exists on the same Earth or is simply a fictional character over there, but I’m pretty sure we’d throw such speculation out the window if she did indeed arrive in Freeland.
From the sound of it, co-star Nafessa Williams also has a Supergirl team-up on her wishlist, saying the following earlier in the year (per ComicBook.com):
“I already fight with Black Lightning, so I already know what it’s like to fight with a male superhero. So, I think it would be really great to have a crossover with Supergirl with a female empowerment storyline. I definitely want to team up with another female superhero for sure.”
Supergirl returns with new episodes on Sunday, October 6th on The CW, with Black Lightning set to follow on Monday, October 21st.
