Never underestimate the allure of NZT, for Bradley Cooper is set to reprise his role as fledging-writer-turned-hyperactive-genius Eddie Morra for CBS’ forthcoming Limitless TV series. In what is understood to be recurring role, The Hangover star has now risen through the ranks to become a presidential hopeful, one who stills leans on the aforementioned drug like a crutch.

According to the network, Cooper – who is set to executive produce the series – will have a part to play in the pilot of the show, before returning in future episodes whenever his schedule permits. There are little plot details available as of yet, though throughout the narrative arc, Cooper’s Morra will turn his attention to a new protégé of his own: Brian Finch. Played by Jake McDorman, Limitless‘ protagonist will follow in the footsteps of Cooper’s regular Joe, who “discovers the brain-boosting power of the mysterious drug NZT and is coerced by the FBI into using his extraordinary cognitive abilities to solve complex cases for them.”

It’s the second part of this description that differentiates CBS’ take from the 2011 cult hit, and one that will give the show some legs as it looks to expand upon the lore established over four years ago. Moreover, the fact that Bradley Cooper will have a part to play in Limitless beyond the pilot is an effective means of anchoring the TV spinoff for fans of the original, all the while welcoming newcomers an alternate reality where popping brain-boosting pills is the norm.

Limitless is due to hit CBS this fall, where it will spin out the tale of Brian Finch on Tuesdays at 10:00pm PT/ET.
