Bridgerton‘s first spin-off, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, premiered on Netflix back on May 4. Since then, the streamer has enjoyed considerable success with the program, which stars India Rio Amarteifio as a young Queen Charlotte, who’s played in the main series, roughly forty years later, by Golda Rosheuvel. The series chronicles Charlotte’s love story with a young King George III (Corey Mylchreest) as he struggles with his mental health.
According to Netflix’s Top 10 website, Queen Charlotte is enjoying its second week atop of the charts, with its parent series Bridgerton currently having spent sixteen weeks on the list, where it currently sits at number 9, with 17,250,000 total hours viewed. Queen Charlotte, meanwhile, has wracked up the most hours viewed by far, with a total of 158,680,000 hours viewed.
Additionally, the series is currently #1 in 91 countries worldwide, having conquered six of the seven continents on the planet. Though the site does not record the data, it’s also possible that the program is in the top ten most-watched programs of other countries – just not at number one.
Netflix has been making a concentrated effort to expand the Bridgerton universe. Rhimes has coyly implied that she’ll be working on yet more future spin-offs, though the contents of those stories is unknown. Queen Charlotte takes care to expand the universe in its own way by including the first ever gay relationship within the Bridgerton universe, a prospect which suggests that the franchise will be tackling a diverse array of romantic relationships. Queen Charlotte also takes care to address issues of mental health; a rare topic for an 18th century drama to cover, but one which seriously affected the real King George and Queen Charlotte.
The Regency-era drama, Bridgerton, has been a popular program on Netflix. Since its premiere back in 2020, the steamy romances and drama featured on the series has captivated audiences around the world. Based on a series of eight novels, also known as Bridgerton, by writer Julia Quinn, the television show follows the lives of the eight children of the wealthy, powerful, and influential Bridgerton family. As each child ages, they become more and more involved with the societal ball known as the ton, where young girls may hope to find a man suitable for marriage. Its third season is the next release and will center around Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).
