Though it’s never quite hit the dizzying box office heights of, say, Captain America: Civil War or even Suicide Squad, Fox’s X-Men universe is currently bursting at the seams with content, and it wasn’t too long ago that the studio nailed down release plans for three of its biggest 2018 tentpoles: Deadpool 2, New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Those ambitious plans are about to spill over on to the small screen, too, via The Gifted, Bryan Singer and Matt Nix’s star-studded family drama that thrusts two ordinary parents (Amy Acker, Stephen Moyer) into extraordinary circumstances upon discovering that their two teenagers – namely Lauren (Gotham’s Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy (Percy Hynes White) – boast mutant abilities.
What follows is a desperate fight for survival, as Acker and Moyer’s parents are forced to go on the run from shady government forces in order to protect their nearest and dearest. That quest leads them to a bona fide X-Men sanctuary, where The Gifted buddy up with a ring of equally powerful mutants. Also starring Sean Teale, Jamie Chung, Coby Bell, Emma Dumont, Blair Redford and John Proudstar, Matt Nix has been quoted in the past as saying that The Gifted exists in “the same general universe” as its cinematic brethren, so long-time X-Men fans can surely look forward to a series of cute references.
The Gifted is expected to occupy a Monday night slot on Fox this fall season, and we’ll keep you right up-to-date as the network zeroes in on a specific premiere date. Until then, we’ve included those all-new pics from the show’s pilot episode down below.
