Per Variety, the Powers That Be have nominated Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd to go boldly where no man has gone before – save for Patrick Stewart himself – for the upcoming, and seemingly binge-worthy, Star Trek show. It’s unclear as yet what director Jonathan Frakes has planned for the Picard series, nor does Variety’s scoop divulge any details relating to Cabrera or Hurd’s mystery characters (all we know is that they’ll both be series regulars), so at least for now, the speculation will continue unabated.

One thing’s for sure: the CBS All Access series will herald the triumphant return of Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, who was a fixture of The Next Generation for seven full seasons. Now, it’s (almost) time for a new mission to the stars.

And as for the new recruits… well, we know Cabrera from his roles across Salvation (another CBS joint) and HBO drama Big Little Lies. His career spans onto the big screen, too, having notched credits in both Che and Transformers: The Last Knight. Michelle Hurd, on the other hand, is perhaps more known for her genre roles, which include the likes of Ash vs. Evil Dead, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones – for those keeping track, she was D.A. Samantha Reyes before Marvel pulled the plug on its Netflix-powered superheroes.

So far, so good, then. If nothing else, the addition of Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd signals that the Star Trek Picard series is beginning to take shape at CBS All Access, and it shouldn’t be too much longer before the network has assembled its crew to join Patrick Stewart in his brand new Trek adventure. And isn’t that exciting?
