We’ve got some bad news for fans of The Flash today, as one beloved member of the cast of the long-running CW show might be leaving the series after its fifth season. As you may’ve guessed from the headline, we’re talking about Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco Ramon/Vibe.
Valdes has been a regular on The Flash ever since it began, even being introduced in Arrow season 2 like Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) were. However, We Got This Covered has learned today that the actor wants to move on to new pastures and plans to leave the show once this season’s done.
The upside is that the likeliest way his exit will be handled is with Cisco simply being written out rather than finding himself killed off, which would leave the door open for him to return for the odd guest appearance (perhaps even in the next crossover event, “Crisis on Infinite Earths”). What’s more, our source tells us that while he’s pretty confident in his intel, he can’t confirm it 100% just yet, so there may be a chance that Valdes remains on the show after all.
In any case, Cisco has always been a fan favorite as the wise-cracking, supervillain-naming tech genius and is easily the most loveable of Team Flash, often providing some welcome comic relief. Over the course of the series, he’s also grown into a hero in his own right. Back in season 2, he learned that he’s a metahuman and his vibrational powers make him pretty useful in a fight but also allow him to create breaches to travel between dimensions.
This season, though, it’d be fair to say that Cisco’s taken more of a backseat. Early on, we had him dealing with his break-up with Gypsy and then he lost his powers thanks to Cicada. His main role since then has been to concoct a cure for the metahuman gene. He’s even been entirely absent for a couple of episodes since Christmas (including yesterday’s installment, “Goldfaced.”)
We’ll let you know when we hear more about Valdes’ potential exit from The Flash, but in the meantime, tell us, would you be sad to see him go? As always, make yourself heard in the comments section down below.
