Leave it to FX’s Fargo series to round together an enviable cast in anticipation of its new season.

Now teetering on the verge of its third outing on the airwaves, FX’s anthology series – one that blends crime, drama and black comedy in a way that only Joel and Ethan Coen’s beloved original could – has amassed a collection of prestigious awards, including Emmys for Oustanding Miniseries and, in the case of Fargo‘s inaugural season, Outsanding Casting. Billy Bob Thornton, Allison Tolman and Sherlock‘s Martin Freeman were among those actors who helped launch Noah Hawley’s anthology series, but come April 19th, the torch will be passed over to Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane), Michael Stuhlbarg, David Thewlis (Harry Potter) and Ewan McGregor(s).

We use McGregor in the plural sense here because, as previously revealed, the Scottish actor has signed on to play not one, but two wildly different characters in Fargo season 3: the straight-laced Emmit Stussy and Ray, the older “loser” brother to Emmit who has spent much of his life in the shadow of his successful sibling. Thewlis, meanwhile, is on board as V.M. Vargas, the de facto villain of Fargo‘s upcoming season, though there are precious few story details available for his character at the time of writing.

Expect that to change very soon indeed, particularly now that we’re little under a month away from welcoming FX and Noah Hawley’s award-winning series back onto the small screen. Last and certainly not least, Michael Stuhlbarg and Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play Sy Feltz and Nikki Swango, respectively. Carrie Coon also stars as police detective Gloria Burgle.

Fargo season 3 premieres with an all-new story on April 19th. Keep your peepers peeled on WGTC for additional content over the coming weeks, when we fully expect FX to debut a full-length trailer. Until such a time as we have that footage for you to peruse, you can catch the show’s latest, downright foreboding teaser, below.
