The first half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s fourth season put the spotlight on Ghost Rider, but the focus will shift to LMD’s next year. For now though, we have a six part webseries which revolves around relatively new addition Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez, a character who has quickly become a firm fan-favourite.
Titled Slingshot, the series follows her as she embarks on a mission to find the man that killed her cousin in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3. However, the spy organization is a little different to when she was last around, and that’s going to lead to the hero butting heads with new Director, Jeffrey Mace.
He’s not the only familiar face to appear here though, and for more on what to expect from this Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff, here’s the official synopsis:
Slingshot is set in the world of the hit television series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Taking place shortly before the beginning of Season Four, this digital series features the character of Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez (Natalia Cordova-Buckley), an Inhuman with the ability to move with super-speed. As a person with powers, she must sign the recently instituted Sokovia Accords, the worldwide agreement that regulates and tracks those with super powers. However, the restrictions of the Accords are in direct conflict with a personal mission she’s desperate to fulfill, a mission that will test her abilities, her allegiances, and will include some tense encounters with our most popular S.H.I.E.L.D. team members.
Season 4 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has really gained a lot of momentum, but ratings have not significantly increased. As a result, we still don’t really know what the future holds in store for these characters as a season 5 renewal has not yet happened. Perhaps it could be that ABC decides to focus on the Inhumans rather than bringing the show back for another year?
Time will tell, but this webseries is definitely a nice way to kill some time before Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is back on our screens next month. Here’s hoping some of the show’s other characters also get the spotlight in a similar format at some point in the near future, eh?
