With the extensive line-up of regulars having dwindled from the several senior departures on Glee‘s finale this year, fans must wonder what the show has in store for us this upcoming season. The good news is, according to Deadline, Chord Overstreet is in talks to finally become a series regular for season 4.
As fans of the show know from previous seasons, Overstreet arrived at McKinley High in season 2 and was quickly accepted amongst fans. When news broke that he would be absent from the beginning of season 3, fans sounded off about the odd departure.
Quite frankly, adding Overstreet as a series regular is a step in the right direction and I’m looking forward to even more revamps this upcoming season. Don’t get me wrong, I have been a Gleek from the beginning, but one must admit that season 3 was quite lackluster compared to its previous seasons.
The simplest way to fix Glee is by exercising appropriate screen time for all given characters, including new ones. We need fresh blood, we need to get to know old characters that have lacked screen time.
In short, diversity is key at the end of the day and that is not a lot to ask for from a series that started out as being one of the most shows on the small screen that we had seen in a wihle.
In addition, while making wity remarks at the beginning of each episode about what fans were all thinking throughout season 3 was smart, such wit will not work this season. Fans want to watch theGlee that had us hooked from the pilot. What we do not want is a show where we merely tune in to hear what the cast make of their new songs. If this was our mere desire we would just log onto iTunes.
While we can hope that the overexposed stars of season 3 won’t be as overexposed in season 4 since most of them graduated, the open invitation to the McKinley High seniors proves to be slightly worrisome for the show’s growth. Hopefully the story arcs including Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker will prove to be interesting at the end of the day.
Glee is set to move from its Tuesday time slot to Thursday this Fall season on FOX.
