If you’re a massive MCU fan and haven’t seen Cloak & Dagger yet, you should really fix that. As per most Marvel TV shows, it tells its own story away from the limelight of the Avengers, but what sets this series apart is that it’s not afraid to connect to other MCU TV offerings instead.
As we’ve reported before, Cloak & Dagger has a strong through-line with events that previously occurred on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. That’s because the show deals with both the insidious Roxxon Corporation and the dangerous extra-dimensional element known as either Darkforce or Zero Matter, both of which have appeared on those previously-mentioned shows.
Now, EP Joe Pokaski has teased that we haven’t seen the last of these links to S.H.I.E.L.D. and Carter. Obviously, he had to be careful with what he said to avoid spoilers, but the writer did promise to ComicBook.com that he and his team made sure to pay attention to the events of those series and tried to work in nods, references and shared ideas with them whenever possible.
“Yes, it’s always our goal to connect instead of negate, if that makes sense. The thing I can tell you is definitely watch all of the Agents of SHIELD and all of the Agent Carter episodes that dealt with Roxxon as well. Whenever possible, we want to connect. I think there’s certain things that were done in Carter and SHIELD that I don’t think we’re going to be necessarily duplicating, but if what you are sniffing around is the source similar, then I can say the source is of the same source originally.”
Though Pokaski’s comments only namecheck S.H.I.E.L.D. and Carter, it’s possible that Cloak & Dagger will sync up with some of the other MCU shows out there as well. After all, we’ve already have an impressive and unexpected link to Luke Cage. In episode 4, Detective O’Reilly said that she’d moved to New Orleans from Harlem. Sure enough, Misty Knight mentioned her old colleague leaving town in episode 8 of the Netflix series.
What’s more, Pokaski’s said in the past that he’d be up for a proper crossover with Hulu’s Runaways in the future, which would no doubt please fans as the different sets of teen heroes have ties with one another in the pages of Marvel comics. Maybe we’ll get to see that in Cloak & Dagger season 2? Time will tell, but we’ll keep you posted should we hear anything further.
