Netflix has found its preliminary cast for Nick Stoller’s upcoming half-hour comedy series Friends From College, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Stoller, who knows a thing or two about engineering bankable frat comedies following both Neighbors and its sequel Sorority Rising, initially hatched the eight-episode ensemble piece alongside wife and producing partner Francesca Delbanco, and it didn’t take long before Netflix began circling.
Now, Friends From College has founds its preliminary cast in Keanu star Keegan-Michael Key, Cobie Smulders – returning to serialized content following her long run on beloved sitcom How I Met Your Mother – Annie Parisse (Vinyl), Nat Faxon (Married), Fred Savage (The Grinder) and Jae Suh Park (The Mindy Project).
A reunion comedy at its core, Stoller and Delbanco’s new venture revolves around a group of Harvard graduates. Now teetering on the edge of their 40s, college is but a distant memory for Netflix’s Friends From College, as they stare down the mouth of adult life, not to mention the “interwoven and oftentimes complicated relationships with each other, the series is a comedic exploration of old friendships, former romantic entanglements and balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past.”
New York will play host to Netflix’s Friends From College when production kicks off in the fall. No word yet on a release date, but we’ll be keeping track of this one as it develops.
