Community Season 7 May Happen At Yahoo

Yesterday, beloved cult comedy Community partially fulfilled its longtime promise to fans of #sixseasonsandamovie, airing its (uniformly excellent) season 6 finale on Yahoo. The comedy, created by Dan Harmon, was formerly housed at NBC and was axed after its acclaimed fifth season, only for Yahoo to step in at the eleventh hour to order 13 more episodes. Even after the finale, though, school may not be out for good for the Greendale gang, according to Deadline. Yahoo is apparently in talks to order more Community.

Even after the finale, though, school may not be out for good for the Greendale gang, as according to Deadline, Yahoo is apparently in talks to order more Community.

Though the season 6 finale likely brought tears to most viewers’ eyes, working as a sort-of series finale for many of the characters, Yahoo is still attempting to establish itself as a network capable of supporting original programming, so it would make sense for the company to keep Community, by far its most well-known show, around for the foreseeable future. Neither Yahoo nor Sony Pictures Television has directly addressed a seventh season, but the former released an official statement:

“With the season six finale of Community airing today, we’re continually excited by how much fans are engaging with the series. Now that all episodes are available for binge viewing, stay tuned for how we keep Community delighting its fans.”

According to Deadline, though, talks are under way for more episodes. Harmon has stated that he’ll be taking a few weeks off in the wake of the finale, but there’s no ticking clock here, unlike for past seasons of the show. However, if the show returns for more episodes, it may end up losing star Ken Jeong, who has NBC comedy Dr. Ken set for the fall (though if the Peacock Network stands by its track record, the series probably won’t last more than a few weeks).

The report on Community‘s future comes on the heels of series star Joel McHale confirming that a Community film (fulfilling the movie part of the “sixseasonsandamovie” promise) could still happen, provided Harmon writes the script. He dropped that strong hint that a movie may be in the works while on a talk show – check it out below.
