With the Arrowverse still riding high following the epic “Elseworlds” crossover, it’s no wonder the brand is able to maintain its popularity after being around for so long. After all, we’re set to receive a live action adaptation of “Crisis on Infinite Earths” later on in 2019, and that’s hugely exciting.
But with the franchise quickly expanding and adding more and more new series, fans were starting to fear that a few of the older ones may be cut. After all, the network only has so much room on their schedule. And though shows like Arrow and The Flash probably only have a few more years left in them, we’re pleased to announce today that The CW has just renewed every single one of their Arrowverse properties for a new run.
That means the aforementioned Arrow and The Flash will return for the 2019-2020 season alongside Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning. Exact premiere dates have yet to be determined, of course, but here’s what network president Mark Pedowitz had to say about the news:
“This season, we expanded our primetime schedule to six nights with the addition of Sunday — which has been an unqualified success for the network, our affiliates and our advertisers. In addition to growing our schedule across the week, we also continue to add more year-round programming. The early renewal of these signature CW series gives us a head start on laying out the 2019-2020 season, and this is just the beginning.”
“These shows provide a strong foundation for our multiplatform programming strategy, and we look forward to building on this with even more returning and new shows as we approach the May upfront.”
It wasn’t just the Arrowverse shows that found themselves with renewals, though, as The CW also picked up a number of their other series for new seasons, including Supernatural, Charmed, Riverdale and Legacies. Suffice it to say, it’s a good day to be a fan of the network’s slate.
Even though audiences are completely spoiled for choice when it comes to superhero TV these days, The CW’s Arrowverse shows have managed to retain their status as must-watch television, and though some are definitely stronger than others, the franchise as a whole is a tremendously impressive achievement and will hopefully be around for many more years to come, keeping folks entertained with its mix of terrific characters and engaging storylines.
