Star Wars fans lost it this week when Danny Trejo made a surprise appearance on the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett. The Machete star frequently works with Robert Rodriguez, who is an executive producer on the Disney Plus series, so we really should’ve been expecting him to make a cameo. Nonetheless, the cult favorite actor’s role as a rancor keeper still came as a big shock to viewers.
Now the cat (or rancor) is out of the bag, though, Trejo has reacted to his Star Wars debut on social media, sharing an epic behind-the-scenes image from the shoot. This photo sees Trejo posing with Temuera Morrison (Boba Fett himself) and the gigantic head of the nose-ring-wearing rancor puppet.
“Machete finally made it into space, Star Wars!” Trejo joked in his caption to the image on Twitter, referencing the famous unmade third entry in the Machete movie franchise, Machete Kills… In Space! “It was great working with Temuera Morrison and others on #TheBookOfBobaFett!”
Sadly, while Machete 3 seems destined never to get made, at least we now have Trejo in a sci-fi setting in a different franchise.
It’s currently unclear if Trejo could return to the show following his role in episode 4, “The Streets of Mos Espa.” When the Hutt twins owned up to sending Wookiee assassin Black Krrsantan after Boba Fett, they gifted him a rancor baby by way of apology. Trejo played the rancor’s keeper, instructing Fett on how to bond with the beast and make it loyal. He survived the episode and appears to continue on in Fett’s employ, so he might feature again.
Don’t miss The Book of Boba Fett as it continues next Wednesday on Disney Plus.
