The ongoing writers’ strike has ground several projects to a halt as writers and guild members continue to demand networks for better pay and working conditions. So it’s no surprise that the media churner known as Marvel Studios has ended up facing delays due to their staff marching on the picket line. As the strike unfolds, it’s been revealed that Blade isn’t the only Marvel project affected by the strikes.
According to Marvel star Vincent D’Onofrio, production for Daredevil: Born Again could be affected by the strikes. The actor told ComicBook.com that he wouldn’t describe the current state of production as “business as usual.” However, the show has scripts ready so they should be good. There just wouldn’t be writers on set.
“I wouldn’t call business as usual because we want to… Well, I’ll speak for myself. I want to be loyal to the writers and to the teamsters. We’ve been told that the company is going to work through. Our writers are on strike, so we have no writers at the moment, but we have our scripts, so that’s good.”
D’Onofrio has stated that the production team will be respectful of its striking team members and would shut down production if they have to.
“As long as we’re doing it in a gracious way and everybody’s in agreement that we can work when we’re allowed to work and we’ll shut down when we should shut down, at a respect for the teamsters and the writers and such, then that’s what we’re going to do. And so far, so good. It’s been going well.”
Fortunately for the MCU, scripts for multiple Marvel projects are finished and are set to enter production. While that sounds like good news, it does mean that shows won’t be subjected to rewrites if scenes don’t go according to plan. At the same time, projects for later titles, such as The Thunderbolts, will face delays due to unedited drafts.
Daredevil: Born Again is the upcoming MCU debut of (formerly Netflix’s) Daredevil, said to be separate from the original series. It will have Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio reprising their roles as Daredevil and Wilson Fisk. At the moment, an official release date for Daredevil: Born Again has not yet been announced, but the 18-episode series is scheduled to be released in 2024.
