Look away now, Matt Murdock, for Wilson Fisk is returning to Hell’s Kitchen.
Deadline has today confirmed that Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise the role of Kingpin in Daredevil season 3, with Erik Oleson taking over as showrunner. The latter will now pick up the torch from Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who graduated to The Defenders – for the record, only Ramirez saw Marvel and Netflix’s team-up series through to the finish line, after Petrie bowed out early on.
Circling back to Marvel’s Man Without Fear, though, and Daredevil season 3 is finally beginning to take shape. Still no word of a concrete release date just yet – ditto for new instalments of Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones – though it’s since been confirmed that Erik Oleson and Co. will be adapting Frank Miller’s famous “Born Again” comic. It certainly ties into the finale of The Defenders, which left Charlie Cox’s costumed crusader in the care of Sister Maggie.
As for Wilson Fisk, rumors of a potential return have gripped the Internet ever since the tail-end of Daredevil season 2. Indeed, once Marvel debunked those reports that initially linked Vincent D’Onofrio with an appearance in The Defenders, where he arguably would have stolen the thunder from Sigourney Weaver’s Alexandra, Netflix subscribers quickly came to the conclusion that Kingpin was being held until Daredevil‘s third season. Heck, D’Onofrio recently telegraphed his return via Twitter, so this scoop is more of a welcome confirmation than an out-and-out surprise.
Exactly how Kingpin will be woven into the plot is the bigger question here, though we’ll leave that one to Erik Oleson and his team.
