Even though Gotham‘s fifth and final season has yet to premiere, the reality of its impending conclusion is really starting to set in. The reason I say that is because while we still have twelve more episodes to enjoy, filming has actually already wrapped on the Batman prequel series.
First and foremost, actor David Mazouz has expressed a heartfelt farewell of his own with an Instagram post. Seen below, the young Bruce Wayne himself took inspiration from anyone who’s used their index finger to scrawl “wash me” on a dirty car, and has spelled out “Gotham” on a window overcome by condensation.
If you were to ask me, he has every right to express his gratitude for the opportunity he’s been presented. It’s not all that often millions of viewers chronicle someone growing up as the boy who’ll become Batman. In fact, that’s what makes the handful of years we’ve spent with Mazouz and his co-stars so unique.
Mistiness aside, the past couple of weeks have produced some generous fruit pertaining to Gotham. To briefly recap, we’ve been treated to some cool character portraits, synopses for the first three episodes, and even a full gallery showing what to expect from the season premiere. If those are any indicators of what’s to come, then we’re in for one hell of a ride.
For more on the opening episode, “Year Zero,” be sure to check out its official synopsis:
Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) face the chaos Gotham City has become. Their mission to keep the city safe becomes more complicated, as the villains who survived the attack on the city begin to resurface and claim various territories. Meanwhile, Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) grapples with how to deal with her uncertain future.
Gotham returns for its fifth season on Thursday, January 3rd on Fox.
