Who watches the Watchmen? You, we imagine.
Yes, the hugely anticipated TV show, itself based on the iconic graphic novel by Alan Moore, in which masked vigilantes inherit the earth and wind up triggering the end of days, is coming to HBO very soon and not wanting to miss out on all the Comic-Con fun that’s been going on this week, the network’s now dropped a meaty new trailer, which can be seen above.
As far as plot goes, it actually shows off quite a bit and already, we know that the show is set set some years after Moore’s source material, though superheroes still remain outlawed. Their legacy burns bright though and executive producer Damon Lindelof has teased an original story revolving around a “murder mystery that unfolds into a world-altering conspiracy that ultimately asks where the fine line is drawn between heroes and villains.”
Starring Regina King, Don Johnson, Jeremy Irons, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Louis Gossett Jr., Watchmen boasts a ton of star power on both sides of the camera. Lindelof’s contribution is particularly exciting, given his involvement in the fan-favorite Lost. Will Watchmen reach the same heights as that aforementioned show? It’s too soon to tell, but after seeing this new trailer, we’re certainly hopeful about HBO’s adaptation.
Stylish, intriguing and polished, the preview offers up a tantalizing tease of what’s to come and we simply can’t wait to see how the story unfolds on the small screen. A fall release window is currently in place for Watchmen and once we’ve got an exact premiere date, we’ll be sure to let you know. Until then, though, feast your eyes on the footage above and get ready for what looks to be a big hit for the network.
