The announcement that The Haunting of Bly Manor will feature entirely new characters rather than bring back those from The Haunting of Hill House has been somewhat bittersweet. While it’ll undoubtedly be interesting to see what direction the show decides to go in next, it’s still going to be hard to move on from the Crains. After ten episodes with the colorful cast, it felt like the viewer became part of the family.
While several of the actors from the first chapter are still returning, they’ll all be taking on new roles as they tell a different scary story. There are likely plenty of fans out there who wish they could see more from the Crain lineage though and thankfully, they’ll soon be able to, as an extended director’s cut of the first season is coming exclusively to Blu-Ray in the near future.
Now, people who don’t have Netflix can finally watch the series that everyone’s been talking about. And those who’ve already seen it will get to experience the frights all over again, this time with even more scares and backstory.
For the few who still don’t know what this series is about, The Haunting of Hill House is loosely based on Shirley Jackson’s eerie novel of the same name. Five siblings grew up in an extremely haunted house where a horrible event practically tore their family apart. Decades later, they’re all brought back together due to the mysterious suicide of their youngest sister and together, they must work to finally put the evil spirits of their dark past to rest before it’s too late.
The upcoming second season is entitled The Haunting of Bly Manor and will explore another modern adaptation of Henry James’ 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw. Filming is expected to begin in September, with the new episodes scheduled to be released some time in 2020.
The extended director’s cut of the The Haunting of Hill House still doesn’t have an official release date yet, but keep checking We Got This Covered for more information on the show and everything else related to horror as it breaks.
