No, The CW Isn’t Making A Superman TV Show

A new rumor arrived online this week claiming that The CW was in the early stages of developing yet another Arrowverse show, this time featuring Tyler Hoechlin's Superman in the lead. The fact that the actor was returning as the Man of Steel in this December's crossover, with Elizabeth Tulloch joining the cast as Lois Lane, was apparently a move on the network's part to test the waters for a standalone series starring DC's most iconic hero.

Naturally, fans got pretty excited, as we haven’t had a solo Superman show on the airwaves since Smallville ended back in 2011. Heroic Hollywood’s Umberto Gonzalez is here to spoil the fun though as he’s now refuted the claim, confirming that the original report was “inaccurate” and there are no more plans for further Superman appearances beyond “Elseworlds” at this time.

Honestly, it did seem too good to be true. For one thing, from what we understand, it’s difficult for both DC’s TV and movie divisions to use the same character at the same time – The Flash is something of an exception. Of course, reports say Henry Cavill is out as the Last Son of Krypton, but it’s unlikely that Warner Bros. would be happy to hand him over to the small screen completely when he’s such a lucrative brand.

In any case, it seems like this year of the Arrowverse will go someway to scratching fans’ itch for a Superman show all the same. Apart from “Elseworlds” – which is also returning to a classic Smallville locationLex Luthor is finally coming to Supergirl. Everyone wants Michael Rosenbaum back under the bald cap, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens as the casting process has yet to begin.
