One of the standout episodes of Luke Cage season 2 was the Iron Fist crossover that teased the Heroes for Hire team-up every fan wants to see between Mike Colter’s bulletproof badass and Finn Jones’ Danny Rand. The latter character was far superior than we’d seen him in either IF season 1 or The Defenders, so it felt as if the unlikely friendship brought out the best in both characters.
Unfortunately, Jones has now confirmed that we won’t see more of this in the upcoming second season of Iron Fist. The star spoke to Latino-Review and revealed that Mike Colter will not be appearing, though he made it clear that he’s with the fans on this one, as he’d love to work with his fellow Defender again.
“Well, Mike isn’t in Season Two, unfortunately. I wish he was, I love working with Mike. I hope to see more Heroes for Hire in the future. I think it’s a great pairing, I think Heroes For Hire and Daughters of the Dragon is just gold! So hopefully that will happen later on down the line, but right now we’re just focusing on a true Iron Fist story.”
As disappointing as it is to hear this news, it does make sense when you consider where LC season 2 left Luke. The Hero of Harlem had decided to fill the power vacuum in the city’s criminal underworld, hoping to change the system from the inside. Seeing as he’s off the streets and running Harlem’s Paradise, it wouldn’t make too much sense for him to go and bust up some bad guys with Danny.
That said, there will be another major Iron Fist/Luke Cage crossover for fans to enjoy. Simone Missick will return in the new season as Misty Knight, so it seems likely that we’ll see more of Misty and Colleen Wing’s friendship. Which, as Jones reminds us in the above quote, may well lead to them forming their Daughters of the Dragon crime-fighting double act.
Plus, Iron Fist season 2 will be busy enough as it is with new characters and storylines to explore – most notably, Alice Eve as new big bad Typhoid Mary. You can catch her, and the return of the immortal protector of K’un-Lun when the new season hits Netflix on September 7th.
