Many Marvel characters have been connected through this shared universe of the MCU. This hasn’t been true consistently, as some characters are, or were owned by different companies with Fox owning the X-Men and Deadpool, and Sony owning Spider-Man. One series that has been a little harder to pin down though has been Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., though one fan thinks they’ve discovered something that points to it being canon.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. follows Phil Coulson taking command of his own team after his part in the first Avengers film. The show was created for ABC Studios and whilst some of the events that were taking place in the MCU were affecting the events of the series, it didn’t really feel like that worked the other way around.
One thing that did seem to lend credence to the idea that it was a part of the MCU was the fact that Nick Fury himself made a guest appearance in the season 1 finale, though again this didn’t impact anything else in the MCU outside of the series. One eager fan though has spotted something that may suggest that this little excursion is a part of the MCU canon and that is that it has been recorded down on the Marvel website’s Nick Fury report.
The site’s report on Fury does include his trip to assist his former right-hand man, Agent Coulson, which would suggest that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. also belongs in the MCU along with everything else. Even with this evidence, there are still a lot of things that need to be explained if the series really was canon. Why wasn’t Project T.A.H.I.T.I. used to bring back any of the other fallen Avengers?
With the release of Secret Invasion, many Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans are hoping that this will in some way pull the events and characters of the series firmly into the MCU, with some believing that the arrival of Melinda May, a.k.a The Cavalry has been teased in trailers back in February. With the first episode already released fans will be sitting on the edge of their seat hoping this isn’t another fake out from Marvel like the whole WandaVision and Mephisto ordeal.
You can watch all episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the first episode of Secret Invasion on Disney Plus.
