Dragon Ball Super and Fila are coming together in an unexpected crossover that will have sneakerheads rejoicing. Funimation announced the collaboration at New York Comic Con today, promising several sets of fighter-themed sneakers to come.
The crossover premiers with DBS Vegeta-themed Fila Renno’s in the Saiyan’s characteristic blue, white, and metallic gold, while a touch of bright blue nods to the prince’s hair color in his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form.
Funimation’s booth showed off the design alongside DBS Trunks-themed Fila-13s, which pay homage to Vegeta and Burma’s son with denim jacket-blue hues, scarf-red laces, and a sword-green FILA flag.
The announcement follows an earlier panel that gave NYCC attendees a first look at the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie. Series executive producer Akia Iyoku and Toei Animaton producer Norihiro Hayashida shared news of the production from Japan, where the film is due to release sometime in 2022. Following the reboots first movie, Broly, Super Hero introduces new characters like Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 alongside old favorites like Goku and Piccolo that have been redesigned by Akira Toriyama himself.
We have gotten no word yet on a US release date while fans eagerly await the return of the Red Ribbon Army, but fans probably get to see it in theaters with their new kicks sometime soon.
Panel hosts Lauren Moore and Chris Han suggested we’d hear more news of characters crossovers and releases details in November. The Vegeta Renno’s will be available via footlocker for $100 in men’s sizing and $90 in kids’.
