Eureka Alum Colin Ferguson Heads To The Vampire Diaries

After The Vampire Diaries left fans with their collective jaw on the floor following the season five finale last May, the network is bringing in some fresh blood for the upcoming season (no pun intended). Former Eureka star Colin Ferguson has just been cast in a recurring role, and it looks like the saying ‘anything goes’ is the overarching motto for the new season.

Ferguson will play Tripp, a community militia leader and surrogate father figure to his trainees. His character is described as handsome, strong and disciplined, and according to executive producer Julie Plec, he’s going to give Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) a run for her money.

This new addition to the cast definitely sounds interesting and it’ll be exciting to see how his character holds up when all of our favorite supernaturals eventually make it back to Mystic Falls after being displaced by a no magic spell.

Although the news wasn’t official until earlier today, Ferguson teased fans yesterday via Twitter.

Plec has called season six of The Vampire Diaries a chance to hit the restart button, and adding a militia definitely screams starting over, given how far a cry it is from things fans have seen on the show before:

“The way we look at it, season six is a beautiful and organic reset. The theme of the season is everybody gets to start over. That’s what we’re going to do. We’re trying to take the show away from the massive genre extravaganza where each season we try to top each other with the bigger, bad, more exciting mythologies and boil it back down to the beginning, which is tension, suspense, romance, psychological horror, simple horror, vampires living in secret, people discovering their secret and coming after them.”

Along with Ferguson, The Vampire Diaries welcomes back Matt Davis’s character, Alaric Saltzman (yay!), and adds Michael Malarkey to the roster as a series regular.

The Vampire Diaries returns to the CW on October 2 at 8/7 P.M.
