While it may be quite some time before we see Jerome Valeska morph into a fully realized Joker, Gotham has not shied away from allowing some of the less law-abiding citizens to already realize their destinies as some of the more iconic supervillains around. To date, we’ve already seen Oswald Cobblepot, Edward Nygma and Victor Fries become the Penguin, Riddler and Mr. Freeze, respectively – and that’s just naming a few.
Not long ago, series lead Ben McKenzie, who plays James Gordon, stated that he’d like to see the Scarecrow show up at some point. At the time, we couldn’t help but wonder if this was something on his wishlist or, if indeed, he was dropping a little hint at what’s to come.
Well, it looks like there was some considerable weight to that, as David Mazouz, young Bruce Wayne himself, said it’s happening when speaking at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in Nashville over the weekend:
“Scarecrow comes back in season four. It’s on full blast, I’m really excited!”
As you may recall, a young Jonathan Crane played by Charlie Tahan showed up back in season 1, so it remains to be seen if he’ll be brought back or if the role will be recast. Granted, his return would help in the way of continuity, but we can’t rule out the producers seeking out a more recognizable actor to put under the burlap sack.
Actually, it’s entirely possible this has already been filmed given what Drew Powell (Butch Gilzean) had to add:
“It’s super creepy too, you’re gonna love it.”
Gotham returns for its fourth season on Thursday, September 28 on Fox.
