Aside from laying claim to stunning action sequences, The Flash has especially excelled at crafting compelling interpersonal relationships between its major players, thereby lending itself to great drama and much levity. To date, we normally think of Barry Allen as being the nucleus at S.T.A.R. Labs, as we don’t often see too many of the characters fraternizing apart from the group unless it pertains to romantic pursuits.
Well, it looks like that’s about to change come this fall, proving that Barry and Cisco aren’t the only members of Team Flash who are allowed to be besties. As you’re aware of by now, episode 4×5 will be titled “Girls Night Out” and will see Arrow‘s Felicity Smoak make her return to Central City. Word on the street is that Iris West’s bachelorette party will be seen in said installment, which we have to admit sounds entirely plausible.
Perhaps as a result of that, Iris and Caitlin are expected to become closer friends, something actress Candice Patton touched on when recently speaking with Entertainment Weekly:
“We’re definitely going to see Iris’ relationship with Caitlin especially developed this season, which we haven’t seen before, which will be really nice for fans. Fans have been wanting to see more female dynamic on the show, and there will definitely be that. They’re working closely together. Caitlin has been through so much herself in relationships, and I think if anyone can offer advice, it would be her, so she’s there quite often to give Iris advice on her relationship with Barry and how to move forward.”
So far, Caitlin hasn’t had the greatest of luck when it comes to the opposite sex (her husband, Ronnie Raymond, died and she then rebounded with a guy who turned out to be Zoom), but it’s always good to have someone to talk to. Still, we have to wonder how her Killer Frost alter ego will play into things, though it’s possible Caitlin has found a way to control her powers.
The Flash returns for its fourth season on Tuesday, October 10 on The CW.
