Aside from the four-way DC TV crossover taking place this coming week and the return of Captain Cold in the episode to follow, there’s much more on the horizon for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Although, with season 2 recently having been increased to 17 episodes, we wouldn’t expect any less.
Conspicuous by his absence for much of the current season is Rip Hunter, who led the Waverider crew for the entirety of the first outing. Since being displaced somewhere in time, Sara Lance has stepped up to assume his vacated position while all are left wondering whatever became of him.
Speaking with Cinema Blend, Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Vixen) said we’ll see him soon, but there’s a bit of a condition:
“He does come back, just not necessarily the Rip that we remember. That’s sort of what is a big part of the second half of the season.”
Given that episode 11 will be titled “Turncoat,” it sounds like Rip may possibly turn heel as they would say in the pro wrestling industry. Or we may see a younger or older version of him plucked from elsewhere in the timestream that may be a bit more unhinged. Or, he may have endured some Re-Neducation similar to what Heat Wave endured when he was conditioned to be Chronos. Any way you look at it, the second half of this season should be pretty interesting.
In addition to that, Richardson-Sellers had this to say regarding the return of a Justice Society of America member:
“There is someone coming back. That’s all I can say, that there is someone coming back you will see in the next episode we’re shooting, that’s…12.”
Speculation will likely run rampant until we receive confirmation as to who that may be, but odds are that it’s either Hourman, whom her character had some involvement with, or Obsidian, played by genre icon Lance Henriksen.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs on Thursday nights on The CW.
