FX and in particular Noah Hawley may currently have their sights trained on X-Men spinoff series Legion (look for that one to premiere early next year), though slowly but surely, both parties have been assembling a who’s who of Hollywood talent for Fargo season 3.

It all started with the casting of Ewan McGregor as duelling brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy – one’s a confident real estate magnate, the other a flabby police offer – before Carrie Coon nabbed the coveted role of the female lead. FX’s casting spree doesn’t end there, though, as word of Mary Elizabeth Winstead climbing aboard has been followed up with confirmation that Scoot McNairy, star of Batman V Superman and Halt and Catch Fire, has secured a recurring role on Fargo‘s third season.

TVLine has the scoop, noting that FX kept character specifics under lock and key for the time being. That’s not terribly surprising given how far away season 3 is, though we do understand Winstead just clinched the part of Nikki Swango, a “crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing.” In terms of setting, Fargo season 3 will uphold the anthology format by introducing viewers to an entirely new time period, one rumored to be closer to the present day in comparison to its forebear.

Production on Fargo season 3 is expected to get underway before the year’s end, meaning we can expect new episodes to begin rolling onto Netflix at some point in 2017.
