I’m not a huge TV fan, but there are moments – far far between – when I get legitimately excited about something going on in TV land. This is one of those moments. William Daniels is returning as Mr. Feeny in the Boy Meets World sequel series Girl Meets World.
Pictures surfaced just the other day of Daniels on the set of Girl Meets World, but it was only just now that it was confirmed that he would actually be taking on his old role in the pilot. Mr. Feeny was one of the best parts of the original series – a great (and entertaining) foil to Ben Savage’s underachieving Cory and I’m pleased to see him back.
Girl Meets World will follow the trials and tribulations of Cory and Topanga’s (Danielle Fishel) progeny through their school days, starring Rowan Blanchard as their daughter Riley. What part Mr. Feeny will play in the series is yet to be seen, but it seems likely that he’ll fall right back into place as the adult Cory’s mentor/nemesis. Given that Cory is now a teacher as well, this should be interesting.
I’m still admittedly a bit skeptical as to who Girl Meets World will appeal to. Certainly adults of my generation, raised on the original series, will be excited to see Mr. Feeny back again. But will the target demographic of the Disney Channel even care? Do they know who Mr. Feeny is, or about his inherent awesomeness? Will they be educated in his ways? I hope so, for their sakes.
The Girl Meets World pilot is filming right now – and there’s little doubt that the series will make a big splash at least in my age bracket. I don’t know anyone who is not excited for it.
What do you think about the return of Mr. Feeny? Too much nostalgia for one show, or just enough? Let us know!
