Towards the end of the season 3 finale of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. we found out that Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) had been replaced as the team’s director. Most of us assumed another established character must have been promoted in his stead, but then a couple of weeks ago it was announced that Irish actor Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars, Terra Nova) had been cast in the role.
Now, we have the first official image from the upcoming fourth season, and it features O’Mara as… well, they still haven’t actually provided us with the character’s name. All we know for sure is that he is someone from the comics, “whose Marvel roots go back to the 1940s.” Plus, O’Mara himself adds when quizzed by TV Line that “it’s a manly name. Yes, a very manly name.”
I’m not too knowledgeable about the early days of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the comics, so even with that hint I won’t venture a guess – but if any of you guys think you have an idea, be sure to let us know in the comments section.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for its fourth (and possibly final) season on Tuesday, September 20th in the new timeslot of 10:00 PM ET on ABC.
