This year’s Arrowverse crossover, titled “Elseworlds,” is shaping up to be a real fan-pleaser. Despite Legends of Tomorrow sitting this one out, the three-part event is set to be stuffed full of heroes. We’ll see switched-up versions of characters we know well (Arrow‘s Stephen Amell and The Flash‘s Grant Gustin swapping costumes), new faces (Ruby Rose’s Batwoman), some exciting guest stars (Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, complete with a black suit) and a few folks we never ever thought we’d see again. Namely, John Wesley Shipp back in his 1990s Flash suit!
But that’s still not it for the crossover. He’s not a superhero, but one intriguing addition to the cast list is LaMonica Garrett as The Monitor. The character’s an ancient cosmic force in the DC Universe and along with his twin brother The Anti-Monitor, one of the oldest beings in reality, tasked with upholding the multiverse. Just as his sibling intends to destroy it. The duo played a major role in the seminal Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline and now, we have our first look at Garrett on set.
From what we can see here, it seems that the Arrowverse is going to provide us with a very accurate translation of the super-being on-screen. It’s hard to make out clearly, but the set photo seen above gives us enough of a glimpse at his get-up to see that the ridges on his head and cheeks and high white collar closely resemble the comic book character. What we want to know now is, what role will he play in “Elseworlds”?
We can’t say for sure just yet, but the Monitor’s appearance is simply the latest hint that the Arrowverse is headed for its own adaptation of Crisis. After all, The Flash season 5 premiere reminded us that it’s due to happen in-universe in 2024, but who knows if the series will reach it before then via the gift of time travel? We’ll have to wait and see, but expect more answers as we get closer to “Elseworlds.”
