Worlds will live, worlds will die when the Arrowverse finally tackles “Crisis on Infinite Earths” this fall. Fans have been waiting for The CW’s shared superhero universe to adapt the classic DC comics event since it was first teased in The Flash five years ago. Now, the biggest threat to the multiverse yet seen is nearly here, and one star is teasing that it’ll be more epic than any of the previous Arrowvese crossovers.
The Flash‘s Hartley Sawyer, who plays Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man, revealed to Hollywood Life that though he doesn’t know much about the specifics as the nuts and bolts of the plot are still being worked out, he can say that it’ll be the “crossover to end all crossovers.”
“I know pretty much as the fans know because they’re sorting all of that stuff out right now. My understanding of it is that this one that’s coming up next year is I believe going to be the crossover to end all crossovers. It’s my understanding this is going to be the biggest crossover that we’ve ever done. There’s going to be a lot going on.”
Given the source material and the heavy foreshadowing seen in the recent finales, we’re inclined to believe him. The original comic sees the DC universe unite to stop the Anti-Monitor from destroying the multiverse. Last year’s “Elseworlds” already introduced his counterpart the Monitor, who recently turned up in the season finales for Arrow, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow.
His appearance in Arrow was the most substantial though, as the cosmic being dropped the bombshell that Oliver Queen is destined to die during the Crisis before whisking the Emerald Archer away to begin the fight to save all reality. Over on Supergirl, meanwhile, he freed Martian Manhunter’s vengeful brother and possibly resurrected Lex Luthor.
“Crisis on Infinite Earths” is set to stretch over five episodes across two quarters and will likely kick off this December. Arrowverse fans, you have about six months to prepare yourselves emotionally.
