Those eager to return to the apocalypse, and a certain police precinct in NYC, have a few reasons to be excited this week, as Fox has given new season renewals to both The Last Man on Earth and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The comedies are definitely two of the highlights for the network’s live-action sitcom department – and well-liked by fans and critics – so it’s not too surprising to hear they’ll both be coming back.
According to Fox’s President of Entertainment David Madden, each show’s “unique voice” and “terrific ensembles” have encouraged the network to keep supporting them into new seasons (a third for The Last Man on Earth and a fourth for Brooklyn Nine-Nine).
Here’s Madden’s full statement regarding the renewals:
“We’re so proud of these comedies. Each has its own unique voice, but they both boast terrific ensembles with stand-out characters and, of course, phenomenal writing, which are the hallmarks of all great comedies.
We’d like to thank the executive producers, casts and crews of BROOKLYN NINE-NINE and THE LAST MAN ON EARTH for their tremendous work this season, and look forward to what’s in store next year.”
Of course, since each show is still well into their current seasons, no information was given or hinted at for what’ll be coming down the road for either series. Fox made a weird decision to bring The Last Man on Earth back from hiatus for two episodes, and then sideline it again for a month; thankfully all-new episodes will be back on April 3rd. Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s next new episode airs March 29th.
We’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date on the latest renewals and cancellations on TV this season, so stay tuned for more.
