Arnold Schwarzenegger is back with his very first leading role in a scripted live-action television series, playing a retired CIA Agent and estranged parent to his daughter Emma, in Netflix’s FUBAR. At 75, Schwarzenegger can still throw a mean punch, and for co-stars Jay Baruchel and Gabriel Luna, it was hard not to fanboy on set.
Speaking to Collider, Baruchel and Luna — who play Emma’s boyfriend Carter and arms dealer Boro respectively — gushed about sharing the screen with a childhood hero. “You’re never not a kid,” Baruchel said about acting opposite the Terminator himself.
The 41-year-old actor confessed he had to be constantly aware of his reaction to Schwarzenegger since he would easily lose focus on the scene and just stand in awe of the action icon. “I’m sure there’s a lot of rushes or dailies of me just in awe. It’s crazy, it’s still crazy. It was never not crazy,” he continued.
Luna had a similar experience, saying working with Schwarzenegger “is always as incredible as it was the first time.” While FUBAR marked Baruchel’s first time working with the former Governor of California, Luna had a bit more experience, having played Gabriel/Rev-9 AKA the villain of 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate.
Perhaps counter-intuitively, however, that is not Luna’s favorite Schwarzenegger film. The Texas native’s heart is with 1993’s Last Action Hero, while Baruchel elected Total Recall as his winner.
FUBAR, which is now streaming on Netflix, also stars Monica Barbaro, Aparna Brielle, Andy Buckley, and Fortune Feimster, among others. Read We Got This Covered’s review of the action-comedy series here.
