Winter is coming. But before those all-powerful White Walkers descend on the North bearing undead terror, HBO has offered Game of Thrones fans the chance to go behind the scenes of next month’s season 6 with a new featurette, and it’s one that’s awash with Wights.

If Game of Thrones season 5 unleashed the mythic power of the Walkers upon Hardhome and all of the Free Folk, next month’s batch of episodes look set to up the ante quite considerably, with writer-producer Bryan Cogman claiming that season 6 will feature the show’s biggest action sequence to date.

“Season 6 definitely [has] the biggest [action sequence yet]. We’ve always wanted to get to a place – story-wise and budget-wise and time-wise and resource-wise – where we would be able to do a proper battle, with one army on one side, one army on another side.”

But the oncoming Walkers are just one wrinkle to the fold. As Game of Thronesrecent trailer attests, the power players across Westeros and Essos – from the wayward Daenerys Targaryen to Melisandre’s troubled Red Priestess – each have their own crosses to bear, which is part and parcel of why HBO is claiming season 6 is completely devoid of “weak episodes.” We’ll find out for ourselves soon enough.

Batten down the hatches, for the White Walkers and their legions of Wights are bound for the Wall. But how will the northerly battle filter into Game of Thrones season 6? We’ll find out when HBO’s crown jewel returns on April 24.
