If anything, 2019 has gotten off to a great start for fans of Kate Kane. To be more specific, not only has The CW officially ordered a pilot episode for a solo Batwoman series to be filmed, but they’ve also assigned one of the most prolific and competent directors in modern television history the job of helming the thing.
We are, of course, talking about David Nutter.
If his name sounds at all familiar to you, it should, because he’s also directed pilots for both Arrow and The Flash, not to mention Smallville. Aside from those DC favorites, Nutter was also on board when a little series called Supernatural was first getting off the ground (you may have heard of it), plus he can actually lay claim to having Game of Thrones on his resume. Heck, this gentleman was even behind the lens for Superboy and The X-Files back in the day! Not too shabby, if I may say so myself.
As for other key members of the creative team, Caroline Dries will serve as showrunner, with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns joining her as executive producers. That trio was pretty much a given when you factor in their previous Arrowverse involvement.
Right now, not a whole lot is known about Batwoman‘s first season, but character breakdowns for the pilot episode have informed us of how the casting department are looking to fill important roles such as Luke Fox/Batwing, Renee Montoya, Jacob Kane and Alice. That last one should ring a bell with comic book readers because Alice is Kate’s estranged sister, who’ll no doubt serve as her first big bad.

Should Batwoman be granted a series order (and we suspect it’s pretty much a lock at this point), then expect for it to premiere sometime during the fall.
