Who is the Night King, exactly?
It’s without a doubt one of the biggest questions fans still have in regards to HBO’s Game of Thrones, even as we quickly approach the series finale. We know he was created by the Children of the Forest and has a particular fondness for circular patterns, but what are his real plans and motives? And why does he continue to spare Jon Snow Aegon Targaryen?
Could it be because he, too, comes from the house of fire and blood? That’s one popular theory currently doing the rounds online, and while it remains to be seen if it’ll turn out to be true or not, last night’s episode of Game of Thrones at least gave us a bit more insight into what exactly the character is trying to accomplish and who his target is.
Yes, if you caught the most recent outing of the show, you’ll know that he’s after none other than Bran. “He’ll come for me. He’s tried before, many times, with many Three-Eyed Ravens,” Isaac Hempstead Wright’s character said on last night’s installment of HBO’s hit fantasy series. The Night King wants an “endless night,” Bran warns. “He wants to erase this world, and I am its memory.”
It’s an interesting bit of insight into the leader of the White Walkers plans, and as expected, Twitter users have reacted accordingly to it.

Of course, the big question going into this Sunday’s episode is how will the Northern Lords of Winterfell defend their Stark Stronghold from the dangerous threat that the Night King poses? That remains to be seen, but with any luck, the hour will provide us with a bit more insight into the character’s background and what else he may be planning for our heroes during the final season of Game of Thrones.
