With Gotham season 5 being the last run of the Batman prequel, the FOX series is planning to go out with a bang by introducing as many elements of the Dark Knight’s mythology into the show as possible in the short 10 episode season. For instance, Deadline has revealed this week that Nikita star Shane West has been cast as a new recurring villain, Eduardo Dorrance.
According to the publication, Dorrance is “an old Army buddy of Jim Gordon’s” who arrives in Gotham in the fallout of the events of season 4 finale “No Man’s Land,” which brought the city to its knees. Though he appears to be there to help Gotham, Jim will soon realize his friend has evil intentions.
Here’s how Deadline puts it:
“Having lost touch with Jim after the war, Dorrance returns to Gotham years later, leading a team of elite soldiers with the goal of helping Gordon restore order to No Man’s Land. But as the scales fall from Gordon’s eyes, he realizes Dorrance’s true intentions in Gotham are much darker and more evil than he could have believed.”
Fans well-versed in the comics may recognize the name Eduardo Dorrance for its similarities to Sir Edmund Dorrance AKA King Snake AKA the father of Bane. So, does this mean we might be about to see a version of the man who broke the Bat’s back in Gotham? You could say that, as episode 8’s titled “I Am Bane.” Going by those titles, it also seems that the middle part of season 5 will be taken up by a Bane-centric arc.
Other comic book foes making the jump to the screen in the new season include Ventriloquist and Scarface, The Dark Knight Returns‘ Mutant Leader and, er, Magpie (no, me neither). It looks like Gotham City is going to need its protector more than ever, though, so good thing Bruce Wayne looks just about ready to don the iconic cape and cowl.
Be sure to catch Gotham when it returns in early 2019.
