It’s a good time to be a comic book fan, as each year we’re seeing more and more of our favorite superheroes on screen. Mostly, they’ve been invading our cineplexes, but we’re at the brink of quite an increase in superhero content on the small screen now as well. We’re already watching shows like Arrow and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and will soon be getting five Marvel series on Netflix, Gotham on Fox, Preacher on AMC, Constantine on NBC and iZombie, Hourman, and The Flash on The CW.
Thanks to Barry Allen’s debut on Arrow earlier this season, The Flash certainly has many people excited. Glee alum Grant Gustin will be playing the scarlet speedster in the show, which is gearing up production on its pilot episode shortly, and today we have the first look at him in costume.
Adapting superhero costumes to live action is no easy feat, and we’ve definitely seen our fair share of both hits and misses over the years. Since this show is a spinoff of Arrow, there was concern over what direction and tone it might take. Arrow is a darker, more realistic spin on the character’s mythos, but judging by the costume seen here, the producers are going more “super” with Flash, which is exactly what the character deserves.
Unfortunately, all we’ve been given is a glimpse of his head and not the full costume, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the whole outfit looks like. However, this is a pretty exciting image and it’s clear that the show isn’t shying away from the character’s iconic design. From the lightning bolt ears to the chin piece, the costume is a dead ringer for what’s on the comic book pages.
Tell us, dear readers, how do you feel about the costume? Does it get you excited for The Flash, or are you holding judgement for a better look at the full suit? Let us know in the comments!
