Heartbreak And Egos Collide In First Trailer For Judd Apatow’s Netflix Series Love

Hoping to make a similar first impression is Judd Apatow's all-new comedy series Love, thrusting Paul Rust and Community star Gillian Jacobs in the starring roles as a mismatched pair out of luck and out of love.

Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang’s comedy-drama Master of None has been reaping praise – and rightfully so – for its frank portrayal of a 30-somethings actor meandering through life and really making it up as he goes along. Indeed, it recently won Best Comedy Series at this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards, cementing it as a fixture in Netflix’s online catalog for the foreseeable future.

Hoping to make a similar first impression is Judd Apatow’s all-new comedy series Love, thrusting Paul Rust and Community star Gillian Jacobs in the starring roles as a mismatched pair out of luck and out of love. Today brings forth the first trailer for the dramedy, offering up a promising look at the dynamic between Rust and Jacobs’ central duo.

As the scribe behind 40 Year Old Virgin and, more recently, Trainwreck, Apatow has a knack for capturing the raw essence of modern relationships, and how they affect the people in them. The ecstasy, the heartbreak – it’s all there. Heck, in today’s teaser, Rust’s character Gus exclaims that relationships “are f**king bulls**t,” cementing Gus and Mickey’s (Jacobs) status as two self-proclaimed commitaphobes.

Here’s the official logline from Netflix:

Love follows Gus and Mickey as they navigate the exhilarations and humiliations of intimacy, commitment, and other things they were hoping to avoid. Having recently ended their respective dysfunctional relationships, Gus and Mickey meet each other by chance at a convenience store and forge a connection in the mending of their broken hearts and egos.

Apatow’s imminent series may not read as terribly original, but the writing and core chemistry between Jacobs and Rust lends Love the benefit of the doubt. All 10 episodes of the show will premiere on February 19, before an expanded sophomore season drops in early 2017.
