It’s certainly no secret that many deserving television series are often overlooked, snubbed, slighted, or just flat-out ignored when it comes to the Emmys. And, unfortunately for Better Call Saul, being overlooked has happened far more times than it probably should have, with the 2024 Emmys proving to be no different.
As it currently stands, and which has been the case for some time now, the pulse-pounding drama hasn’t exactly been lucky when it comes to the madness of award season, despite the series being critically acclaimed and universally adored for years now. On the contrary, fresh-faced projects such as The White Lotus and The Bear continue to snatch a variety of Emmy wins and nominations in the aftermath of the debut of these shows.
So, has Better Call Saul won any Emmys, ever?
Unfortunately, Better Call Saul has never won a single Emmy, despite being one of the most intriguing shows in the history of television. That’s not to say that it hasn’t gone without its fair share of praise and accolades, of course. In its freshman year, the show itself was up for Outstanding Lead Drama, while Jonathan Banks also got the nom for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and Gordon Smith was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for the episode “Five-O.”
The likes of Banks and Giancarlo Esposito were nominated and ultimately shut out, however, as was co-creator Vince Gilligan. The show also received noms (and didn’t win) for categories such as Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series and Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Supporting Role, among several others.
So, how in the world is that possible? The show is recognized year after year after year, and yet, isn’t worthy of a single win?
Sure, it’s not the sexiest or flashiest show out there, but there’s absolutely no denying that the cast and crew had already shown what they can do long before Saul came along with the exceptional Breaking Bad. As Gilligan’s brainchild, Breaking Bad followed a much different path than Better Call Saul and originally won 16 Emmys during its run.
Is it because Breaking Bad won enough times that voters just didn’t wanna keep handing the same universe some hardware? Either way, the 2024 Emmys have now come to pass, and Better Call Saul‘s 53 Emmy nominations in total have amounted to no gold statue ever won. It’s a bummer, truly, for die-hard fans of the series who continue to feel the defeat even years later.
Oh, and the people… they’ve got some opinions.
Now, folks could surely harp on and on as to why Better Call Saul failed to ever secure an Emmy win, but it certainly won’t change facts. So while it’s definitely disappointing that the Bob Odenkirk vehicle was never able to taste a sample of award gold, Better Call Saul will still go down in history as a successful series that helped shape the very fabric of Breaking Bad and its mountain of drama. That’s worth more than any major award, right?
